Sec. 5. (a) A vehicle for a which a license plate is issued under section 1 of this chapter is exempt from the applicable registration fee for the vehicle under IC 9-18 (before its expiration), IC 9-29-5 (before its repeal), or IC 9-18.1-5. (b) A vehicle described in subsection (a) is subject to a service charge as follows: (1) For a license plate issued before January 1, 2017, five dollars and seventy-five cents ($5.75). The service charge shall be distributed as follows: (A) Twenty-five cents ($0.25) to the state construction fund. (B) Fifty cents ($0.50) to the state motor vehicle technology fund. (C) One dollar and twenty-five cents ($1.25) to the emergency communications fund. (D) Three dollars and seventy-five cents ($3.75) to the commission fund. (2) For a license plate issued after December 31, 2016, five dollars ($5). The service charge shall be distributed as follows: (A) Twenty-five cents ($0.25) to the state construction fund. (B) Fifty cents ($0.50) to the state motor vehicle technology fund. (C) One dollar and twenty-five cents ($1.25) to the emergency communications fund. (D) Three dollars ($3) to the commission fund.
